Amber will develop your home around your site, lifestyle, priorities and budget rather than forcing a generic floor plan onto the land.

A well-designed renovation or extension can completely change the way an existing home feels and functions. Amber looks at what is already working, what isn't, and where changes will have the biggest impact — whether that is improving flow, creating more usable space, bringing in better light or making the home work more naturally for your family.

Granny flats and tourist accommodation often come with their own set of design and approval considerations. Amber can help work through the layout, site constraints and approval requirements to create a space that is functional, comfortable and suited to how it will be used.
This is where your ideas start to come together.
Your brief, site, budget and priorities are considered together to develop the overall layout and direction of the project. This is also where it's worth taking your time. Exploring the options and working through the important decisions now gives you clarity moving forward and can save considerable time, cost and changes later in the process.
The design is then refined further, working through the layout, overall form, key details and material direction to arrive at a final concept you're confident moving forward with. The focus at this stage is on getting the important things right early — how the spaces work, how the home sits on the site, orientation, natural light, flow and how the design supports the way you want to live.

Once your final design is ready, this is where I recommend having a builder take an initial look and provide an indicative cost estimate. This gives you an opportunity to check the design against your budget before moving into planning drawings and approvals.
Once the concept design is resolved, the drawings required for planning approval are prepared. The relevant planning requirements and site constraints have already been considered throughout the concept design stage. This stage is about developing the agreed design into the documentation required for formal planning assessment.
The drawings clearly communicate the proposal and demonstrate how the design responds to the relevant planning requirements. Where additional consultants or supporting information are required, Amber will coordinate these as part of the process. Where the proposal is eligible, I may recommend using an independent accredited planning professional rather than Council for the planning assessment — this can provide a more direct and responsive approval pathway and help reduce assessment time.
Once the documentation is complete, the application is lodged for assessment and Amber manages the process through to Planning Approval, including responding to any Requests for Information along the way. The aim is to make this stage as clear and straightforward as possible, while keeping you informed about what is happening and what comes next.
Once Planning Approval has been obtained, the design is developed into the more detailed drawings required for Building Approval and construction. At this stage, the documentation is coordinated with the relevant consultants so all of the information needed for Building Approval comes together in one complete package.

Once the drawings and consultant documentation are complete, everything is lodged with an independent private certifier for Building Approval. Amber coordinates the process, responds to any Requests for Information and keeps the documentation moving through assessment until Building Approval is obtained. Once Building Approval is granted, the final Development Approval is issued and your project is ready to build.
Where required, Amber can remain available during construction to clarify documentation and respond to design-related questions from you or your builder. This service does not include project management or supervision of construction.

About
Building design has been part of Amber's life for as long as she can remember. Her father, Andrew Bragg, was a Building Designer and Carpenter, and some of Amber's earliest memories are of drawings, plans and baking cakes for his client meetings.
That early exposure eventually led Amber into the building industry herself. While studying building design, Amber worked alongside a builder across a wide range of projects. This gave her a strong foundation in how buildings actually come together on site, how drawings translate into construction, and a practical understanding of the building process that no textbook could replace.
Today, Amber brings more than 15 years of industry experience to residential projects across Adelaide and South Australia. As a designer and mum of two adventurous boys, she also understands that homes have to work in real life — not just look good in photos.
The result is a design approach that is practical, personal and considered, balancing good design with budget, buildability and the everyday experience of living in a home.

A home should do more than look good.
It should make the most of its orientation, use space efficiently and feel comfortable to live in every day. Every room should have a reason, and every design decision should add value — whether that's improving natural light, creating better flow, reducing unnecessary floor area or making smarter use of the construction budget.
The focus isn't on following trends or adding complexity for the sake of it. It's about creating thoughtful, functional homes that work well now and continue to work as life changes.

This typical 1980s three-bedroom brick home underwent a complete transformation, combining a fresh new look with a thoughtfully designed extension to better suit the needs of a growing young family. The result is a refreshed, functional home designed for modern family living.

Set on a beautiful rural property, this new home was thoughtfully designed to make the most of its surroundings, capturing the incredible views and maximising natural light throughout. With future flexibility in mind, the home was also designed with the potential to become tourist accommodation once a new main dwelling is built on the property.

With the kids quickly growing up (as they do!), this family home needed more space to grow with them. A thoughtfully designed second storey extension created a dedicated kids' zone, giving the family much-needed additional living space without compromising on their valuable outdoor space. Complete with a fresh new façade, the renovation transformed the original home into something almost unrecognisable.

You'll discuss your site, your ideas, your priorities, how you live and your budget. This is also where Amber determines the level of design support your project requires and identifies any early planning, site or consultant considerations.
The first design ideas are developed around your brief, budget and the conditions of the site. Layouts, forms and spatial ideas are explored and refined until there is a clear direction for the project.
The drawings required for planning approval are prepared and coordinated for the relevant planning assessment process.
Once planning approval is obtained, the detailed drawings and documentation required for building approval, builder pricing and construction are prepared.
Where required, Amber can remain available during construction to clarify documentation and answer design-related questions. This is design support rather than project management or construction supervision.
